What makes you unique as and athlete
I would say it is that I race professionally but behave very much like any age-group participant in that I live quite a balanced life between family, work aspirations and sport. I am usually more likely to circulate and socialise with age group athletes in and around events than with fellow pro's, often because I seem to share more in common with everyday endurance enthusiasts. My biggest passion in life is being a husband and father but my training and racing performances seem to fill my family with just as much joy and excitement as it does for me, so its a wonderful life to live!
What’s your best performance(s)?
To date I would rate my 2017 Challenge Wanaka victory and course record as my best performance. It was a truly world class pro field and I wanted victory so much in my home town. The course is very tough and honest which suits me so I was able to execute a very individual race which led to my 2nd consecutive victory in this race and probably my best ever performance across swim/bike/run.
What performance has had the biggest influence on you?
I would say it was my 2013 inclusion in the world adventure racing champion Team Seagate (NZ) to compete in Ecomotion Brazil. It was a long hard event (we finished in 127 hours) but I learnt so much racing with the world's best team and suffering for nearly a week helped mentally prepare me for the shift to Ironman triathlon, as nothing will ever feel as hard as that race again (I hope!).
What does FUSION equipment mean to you during training and competition?
It is a confidence boost. If I am training in any temperatures or conditions (hot or cold) I can trust my FUSION apparel range to have the right clothing options for any occasion. Whether it is the HOT WINGS and SLi Cycle vest to stay toasty on an early morning cycle session or the C3 run shorts and singlet combo for a run in the afternoon heat, I am always prepared. On race day, I feel immense pride when I climb into my FUSION SLi SPEED SUIT, knowing I have the very best suit on the market and it will give me every opportunity to race to my very best capabilities when it matters most.
What other sponsors do you have and how do they help you become a better athlete?
My main sponsor is LANDMARK HOMES Central Otago who are a New Zealand-based building company with a focus on top quality (just like FUSION). I also have beSure Tailored Insurance, Felt Bicycles, Waha Maori Creative Agency (the indigenous NZ culture) and Profile Design. As a collective group of companies they broaden the platform that I am able to stand upon when searching for my potential as an athlete. It is a massive performance enhancement to have these companies on my team!

Goal(s) of the season
Win/podium at Ironman Australia and book a ticket to my first Kona Ironman World Championships (and race the Xterra World Champs two weeks later in Hawaii also).
