TEMPO! Aero Sock – aero for road racing

TEMPO! Aero Sock is built as a versatile aerodynamic sock for road cycling. The profiled cuff is designed to deliver aerodynamic benefit across the many situations of a road race, while the ventilated foot and reinforced heel keep it working as a technical cycling sock. A thin silicone grip holds the cuff in place.

TEMPO! PRO Aero Sock – aero performance without compromise

TEMPO! PRO Aero Sock is built for the rider chasing marginal gains. It is developed and tested in the FUSION TEMPO! Wind Tunnel together with Uno-X Mobility Pro Cycling Team and uses aero-optimised French fabric with strategic rib structures and trip lines. PRO is the choice when maximum aerodynamic performance matters more than versatility.

What are aero socks?

Aero socks are cycling socks where the cuff is built as an aerodynamic surface.

When you ride, the lower leg moves straight through the airflow. A traditional sock is built primarily around comfort and fit, while an aero sock also tries to control the way the air moves around the leg.

That is why aero socks typically use structured fabrics, a close fit and a relatively high cuff.

How do aero socks work?

The purpose is to reduce aerodynamic drag around the lower leg.

That does not happen by making the surface smooth alone. Profiling, rib structures and other surface textures can be used to influence the airflow around the leg.

The optimal solution depends on the rider, the speed, the position and the specific construction, among other things. That is why FUSION works through testing and product development rather than one universal watt figure.

Why does the fit matter?

The aerodynamic cuff only works as intended if it stays in the position it was designed for.

That is why both TEMPO! Aero Sock and TEMPO! PRO Aero Sock use a silicone grip to stabilise the cuff around the leg.

An aero sock also has to sit close. A race fit will therefore normally feel different from a classic knitted cycling sock.

Aero socks or ordinary cycling socks?

On steady training rides, comfort, temperature and ventilation are often the most important criteria. Here TEMPO! Cycling Sock or Cycling Sock Merino are the more natural choices.

Aero socks become relevant when speed and competition matter more, and you want to optimise more parts of your overall aero system.

Frequently asked questions about aero socks

Do aero socks make you faster?

The purpose of an aero sock is to reduce aerodynamic drag compared with a less optimised surface. The actual effect varies with rider, speed, fit and position among other things, so there is no single watt figure that applies to everyone.

What is the difference between TEMPO! Aero Sock and TEMPO! PRO Aero Sock?

TEMPO! Aero Sock is built as a versatile road race aero sock. TEMPO! PRO Aero Sock is the more uncompromising solution, developed and tested in the FUSION TEMPO! Wind Tunnel with marginal gains in mind.

Should aero socks fit very tightly?

Aero socks need a close fit around the leg so the fabric sits correctly and the cuff stays in place. The fit will therefore normally feel tighter than on a traditional cycling sock.

Can I use aero socks for ordinary training?

Yes, but the primary benefit of aero socks is relevant when speed and aerodynamics take priority. For steady training rides a classic cycling sock can be the more natural choice.

Why do aero socks have a high cuff?

The cuff is the aerodynamic part of the sock. A larger optimised surface area around the lower leg allows more active work with the airflow than a traditional short sock.
