Besides representing the esteemed Herning Bike Club for a number of years, Jesper Riis had no spectacular elite background before thrusting himself into triathlon in 2016. On the other hand, he has always spent time with professional athletes, and with just a handful of amateur competitions under his belt, it was only natural to go PRO in 2018.
It quickly became clear that the longer and harder the race is, the better Jesper performs. The combination of mountains and a hard marathon has proven to be the key to his career's best results yet in Challenge Madrid and IM Lanzarote. Jesper picked up his first professional victory in 2020 when he won the absurdly hard new classic Thor Beach Triathlon.

Swim: 27:40/1:00:56
Bike: 2:18:49/5:05:24
Run: 1:17:14/ 2:52:53
*The relatively slow splits should be seen in the light of the mostly hilly routes that Jesper prefers.

The last name Riis will forever be associated with one of the biggest Danish names ever in biking and the inevitable pressure of expectations was one of the reasons Jesper switched from biking to triathlon. However, he has retained some of the cycling mentality, for instance as co-founder of the Capatri team together with FUSION athlete Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen. The idea behind the team was to recreate the collective consciousness and identity in order to offset triathlon’s “everyman for himself” mentality.
