Yahoo Finance examines the practical challenges of creating meaningful transparency in the apparel industry through Fusion’s work with product-level environmental data and Digital Product Passports.
The article follows Fusion’s preparations for upcoming Digital Product Passport requirements, describing a process that has already involved extensive work collecting and structuring detailed information across the company’s products and supply chain.
Using a Fusion long-sleeve running shirt as an example, the article demonstrates the level of detail behind the initiative. The product is reported with a calculated carbon footprint of 3.4 kg CO₂e, with its Digital Product Passport breaking the environmental impact down across materials, processing and manufacturing stages.
The example illustrates both the potential and the complexity of product-level transparency. Moving beyond broad sustainability claims requires detailed information about materials, manufacturing processes, locations and environmental impact, while gaps in even highly developed datasets remain difficult to eliminate.
Fusion has been developing its Digital Product Passport infrastructure together with environmental data platform Carbonfact, using the same underlying system for product LCAs, company-level carbon accounting and consumer-facing environmental information. Carbonfact identifies Fusion as an early adopter and active co-development partner for its DPP technology.
The coverage provides an external perspective on Fusion’s attempt to move textile transparency from general sustainability communication towards measurable, product-specific environmental documentation.
