Biography

Oscar Gladney grew up in a real sport-loving family in Viborg and knew early on that elite sports were going to be a big part of his life. Endurance sports, in particular, became an integral part of his growing up, with a father who was an ultra-runner, adventure racer and long-distance triathlete.

Family excursions to, e.g. Ironman Copenhagen convinced Oscar that triathlon is the world's coolest sport.

He was just over 18 years of age when he won the 2018 World Championships silver (junior) in Cross Triathlon, and the triathlon association rewarded Oscar by naming him talent of the year. In 2019 Oscar became Junior World Champion in Cross Triathlon and picked up his first top-10 finish in the ETU Europe Cup, as well as an impressive 13th place finish in the ITU World Triathlon Grand Final. Following retraining due to a broken clavicle, Oscar returned to top shape in the autumn of 2021. With an impressive sprint finish, he was the man who secured Danish bronze in the WTCS Hamburg Mixed Relay.

Goal

Oscar Gladney is one of the greatest Danish youth talents in many years and is fully focused on the World Cup for Olympic qualification. He is also an extremely important component of the Olympic Mixed Relay team headed for Paris in 2024.

Fun fact
  1. When Oscar became Cross World Champion in 2019, school friends in Viborg had arranged a welcome committee with non-alcoholic children's champagne, as he does not drink alcohol in the middle of the season on principle.
  2. Where others appreciate a good long ride on the bike or a long run in the forest, Oscar likes it best when lactate is practically flowing out of his ears. As Oscar puts it: “The best bike sessions are those where I have pushed myself so hard that I have no idea how to get home again”.
