It would be a historic triumph for Uno-X Mobility if the team managed to win a stage at La Vuelta a España and complete a season featuring stage victories in all three Grand Tours.

The third and final Grand Tour of the year is under way. For Uno-X Mobility, it marks the beginning of the pursuit of another Grand Tour stage victory.

If they succeed, it will be a historic triumph for the Norwegian-Danish team, earning them a place in the exclusive group of teams to have won a stage at the Giro d’Italia, Tour de France and Vuelta a España in the same season.

“We arrive at La Vuelta with high ambitions. Our goal is to leave the race with a stage victory,” says Asbjørn Kragh Andersen, one of the team’s sports directors at the Spanish Grand Tour.

A season that has already made history

That ambition has not emerged from nowhere.

Earlier in the season, Fredrik Dversnes secured Uno-X Mobility’s first-ever Giro d’Italia stage victory. On stage 15, he was part of a breakaway that defied expectations by holding off the peloton all the way to the finish line in Milan.

Søren Wærenskjold then followed up at the Tour de France. On stage 11, the powerful Norwegian won the sprint at the end of a historically fast day on the French roads.

Two Grand Tours. Two stage victories. Now, only the Spanish Grand Tour remains.

But a stage victory at La Vuelta will not come easily. The race features more than 58,000 metres of climbing, numerous summit finishes and terrain where the heat, the gradients and the fierce battles to make the breakaway could all prove decisive.

Uno-X Mobility will therefore line up with a squad built to race aggressively.

Magnus Cort and Andreas Kron can make their mark on the hilly stages. Andreas Leknessund, Simon Dalby and Martin Tjøtta come into their own when the road rises in earnest, while Rasmus Tiller and Giro stage winner Fredrik Dversnes could play important roles on the more unpredictable days.

What they all have in common is that they have not come to Spain to hide.

Three weeks with almost no margin for error

Over three weeks of racing, every detail matters. Energy expenditure, recovery, temperature regulation, sun protection, aerodynamics and equipment choices can each help determine whether a rider has the strength to make the difference when an opportunity arises.

It is precisely these details that form the foundation of the partnership between Uno-X Mobility and FUSION. The work is based on aerodynamic testing in the TEMPO! Wind Tunnel, feedback from the riders and analysis of the specific situations they encounter during races.

The result is not a single suit for every occasion, but a range of specialised solutions developed for different speeds, temperatures, stage profiles and roles within the race. From the BreakAway Suit for the fastest days to the Grand Tour Suit, which excels when the road rises and the temperature begins to climb.

“La Vuelta places very different demands on the riders from one day to the next. They must be able to transition from extremely fast stages to long climbs and intense heat. Our work is therefore about providing the team with the best possible solution for each individual situation. Over three weeks, even small improvements can help create the decisive difference,” says Frederik Muff, Aero Specialist at FUSION.

The opportunity must be seized

Even the best preparation cannot guarantee a stage victory. In a Grand Tour, the riders must first make the right breakaway, read the race correctly and have the legs to execute the plan.

But preparation can help ensure that opportunities are not lost because of details that could have been addressed in advance.

Uno-X Mobility has already shown that the team can win on cycling’s biggest stage. At La Vuelta, the ambition is to race visibly and aggressively, putting several riders in a position to fight for victory.

If they succeed once again, the victory will be more than the conclusion of a successful day in Spain.

It will complete a historic Grand Tour season.
